Senator Dr. Dana Morris Dixon was sworn in as a Cabinet Minister on Thursday.
She will serve as Minister without portfolio in the Office of the Prime Minister with responsibility for skills and digital transformation.
She was presented with her instruments of appointment during the ceremony at King's House.
Prime Minister Andrew Holness said the new Cabinet Minister will work to address the skilled labour shortage issues plaguing some sectors in the country, including construction and tourism.
The shortage has prompted members of the private sector and the government to suggest the importation of workers to fill the gap. But Mr. Holness said Dr. Morris Dixon will be tasked with putting together a programme to bring in those who are not currently part of the labour force.
