For the very first time, a 52 year old has made it as a contestant in the Miss Jamaica Universe pageant.
This is momentous for Dr. Sandra Swaby to boldly step forward as a candidate for the 2024 Pageant.
In September of 2023, the Miss Universe Organization announced that all women over the age of 18 years are now eligible to enter the Miss Jamaica Universe pageant, removing the age limit which was previously 28 years old.
Mothers, Married and Pregnant women are also now eligible to enter as well. Dr. Swaby did not hesitate to take a swing at this opportunity.
Dr. Sandra Swaby, Board-Certified Cosmetic Surgeon and Medical Spokesperson for Lifespan Company Limited, recently decided to enter the Miss Jamaica Universe Pageant at 52 years old.
Dr. Sandra Swaby was an adventurous child who always knew that she wanted to become a doctor. She is the 3rd of 4 daughters born to two Pentecostal reverends in Dunsinane, Manchester. As an adventurous teenager, after graduating high school she went on a global self-discovering journey where she went to many different countries including Venezuela, Columbia and Brazil, where she spent approximately six weeks living with a tribe in the Amazon rainforest. She later returned to Jamaica, then spent some time in Cuba and in the US all in aid of finishing her studies.
As a mother, Dr. Swaby sees the changes in the Miss Universe Jamaica Pageant rules as a positive step towards inclusivity and diversity. She believes that “by opening up the competition to women of all ages, the organization is promoting inclusion, redefining the traditional concept of beauty and empowering women to embrace the journey of becoming themselves as one to be proud of. Both successes and failures contribute to the women that we become”.
Dr. Swaby, as Lifespan’s Medical Spokesperson, has addressed many audiences expressing the importance of maintaining good health, the importance of rehydration as well as many other aspects of healthy living. As a result, it was an easy decision for lifespan to become her sponsor in the Miss Jamaica Universe Pageant.
Nanaya Williams, the CEO and Managing Director for Lifespan Company Limited says that she is elated to be the sponsor of such an icon. She states that “Dr. Swaby’s outlook on life, her penchant for a healthy lifestyle including hydration, balance and healthy nutrition is why she is our Medical Spokesperson and why we are delighted to support her in this important quest”. She is a perfect representation of this vision and a shining example of what we all can achieve if we take care of our health”.
Dr. Swaby is elated to take on this journey on the road to Miss Universe. She believes that “All women at all times should live their lives the fullest way possible. No regrets. Being a mother and woman past 50 doesn’t mean that life has ended, it means that possibly, the most fulfilling life journey has begun”. She further expressed her gratitude to Lifespan, stating “I am happy to represent Lifespan, as our values are the same. As a spokesperson for Lifespan, I see the product as a reflection of my own outlook on life- one that is centered around promoting health, wellness, and longevity. In an interview, Dr. Swaby was asked about her inspiration for entering the Miss Universe Jamaica pageant where she revealed that she considers the competition as “A platform to further my mission of empowering women and promoting confidence and self-esteem, especially in women over 50. I saw it as an opportunity to amplify my self-love message on a larger scale and inspire others to embrace their uniqueness and pursue their dreams fearlessly no matter their age”.
She emphasizes the importance of women over 50 embracing their age with uniqueness, while still following their passions and pursuing their dreams with courage and determination. She hopes to continue inspiring women her age and older to become the best versions of themselves, allowing them to know that it is never too late to make positive impacts on the world.
Dr. Swaby has advanced past the first round of eliminations and will take part in the final round of eliminations which is intended to reduce the number of contestants from 38 to 20. She is as excited as she is confident that she will make it to the stage on the final night, and be crowned the next Miss Jamaica Universe 2024.
