Mr Lance Hylton, Chairman of the Jamaica College Board of Management, is pleased to announce that the Ministry of Education has confirmed the permanent appointment of Mr Wayne Robinson to the position of Principal of Jamaica College, with effect from September 1, 2022.
The entire Jamaica College school community is ecstatic at this long awaited development, as Mr Robinson has acted in the position since March of 2016, and has led the school with distinction and excellence.
According to the 2017 report of the well-known Educate Jamaica high school CSEC results and rankings, JC was then ranked 39th of high schools island wide, with 64% of its students passing five or more subjects including Maths and English.
Since then, under Mr Robinson’s leadership, the school has steadily improved with the most recent 2024 report and rankings placing JC as now being ranked as having had the 16th best results island wide, up from 20th in the 2023 rankings and 34th in the ranking published before that.
81% of the JC boys sitting CSEC last year passed 5 subjects or more, and 76% passed 5 subjects with both Math and English. 52% passed 7 subjects, up from 44% in the previous year.
The news of the permanent appointment of its Principal caps a year of tremendous success for Jamaica College, which includes first place competition finishes in a number of areas including Walker Cup Football, Hockey, Table Tennis, Basketball, Volleyball, Lawn Tennis and the Jamaica Stock Exchange competition.
In Track and Field JC won the most gold medals at this year’s ISSA Boys Championships, was the best performing school in this year’s Gibson Relays and put in the best performance by any school at the prestigious, international, Penn Relays, with three gold and one silver medal.
Mr Robinson holds a First Class Honours Masters Degree in Education Leadership and Supervision from Western Carolina University, a BSc Degree from the University of the West Indies, and is a proud graduate of Jamaica College
