After the votes were tallied, Mr. Carlton Watson’s, talented 3-Y-O Bay Colt FUNCAANDUN (Klimt-Fiftyshadesoffun by Empire Maker) was voted Horse-of-the-Year 2024.
FUNCAANDUN earned $27,878,200 by virtue of winning eight (8) races from eleven (11) starts. His victories included: The Rimsky Trophy 6F, The World Vet Day Trophy 8F, She’s A Maneater (GR.I) 8F, Distinctly Irish (GR.I) 9F & 25 yards, Philip Feanny Gold Cup (GR.I) 7F and the ultra rich Mouttet Mile (GR.I) 8F.
The Jason DaCosta conditioned FUNCAANDUN while sporting the white and burgundy silks of Carlton Watson was also voted Champion 3-Y-O, Champion Middle Distance Performer overall, and Champion Foreign Bred overall. He was bred by Bill Adair, Phyllis Adair, Connie Brown (USA) and groomed by Terrence Bloomfield.
ATOMICA (Nuclear Wayne – Honkeytonkville by Reparations) and DESERT OF MALIBU (Malibu Moon- Lady Digger by Yankee Gentleman) were voted first and second runner up respectively, to the Horse-of-the-Year.
The Jamaica Cup (GR.I) heroine ATOMICA first runner up to the Horse-of-the-Year, was also voted Champion 4 Y-O & Up overall, Champion Stayer overall and Champion Local Bred. She is owned by Oakridge Farms.
Houston Stables’ DESERT OF MALIBU(USA) 2nd runner up to the Horse-of-the-Year was victorious in The Port Royal Sprint (GRI), The None Such Sprint (GR.I) and The Lady Geeta (GRI) was voted Champion Sprinter overall.
The 2-Y-O Bay Colt UNSPUN (USA) (Spun To Run – U Need A Ride by Summerfront) won three Stakes races; The Dye Job Sprint, The Mr. Sensational, The Hovercraft and was voted Champion 2-Y-O overall for his Owner Colin Elcock.
The Most Improved Trainer was Donovan Hutchinson while Raddesh Roman was voted Most Improved Jockey.
