Jamaica has recorded its highest number of Covid-19 cases since the onset of the pandemic in March last year.
In the Health and Wellness Ministry’s latest update, 8-hundred and 79 cases were recorded over the last 24 hours. The previous record was 878.
Today’s record brings the total number of positive cases seen on the island to 62,712.
The majority of the cases were recorded in Kingston and St. Andrew with 145.
1,859 samples were tested, representing a positivity rate of 43.9 percent.
Meanwhile, 14 more people spanning across five parishes have died from COVID-19.
The deaths occurred over a single day from August 20 to 21.
This brings the total number of Covid-19 deaths on the island to 1,402.
The number of active cases stands at 13,140.
In the meantime, 66 recoveries were recorded.
This brings the number of recoveries to 47,787.
The country also recorded its highest number of hospitalizations at 607.
125 are moderately ill, 83 are severely ill and 60 are considered critical.
