Jamaica is to benefit from a reduction in fertiliser prices from the country’s foremost distributors of the critical good.
That’s according to Agriculture Minister, Pearnel Charles’ Jr.
The Minister was speaking at a press conference this morning.
It’s good news for a sector that has been hit with high prices for inputs due to rising inflation and global commodity prices.
The Agriculture Minister says this is a cumulative reduction in fertiliser prices by over 18 per cent for this month alone.
Fertiliser forms one of the most important inputs in the agriculture sector and is expected to significantly impact the final cost to consumers for produce.
Meanwhile, Managing Director of Newport Fersan, Dennis Valdez, says the company has more than enough stock to supply farmers and is urging them to take advantage of the opportunity.
