Two Dead After Train Derails In St. Ann

Two men are dead after a bauxite train derailed in Retreat, St. Ann on Sunday night.

They’ve been identified as workers Orlando Brown and Shein Powell.

It says detailed investigations are ongoing into the cause of the derailment.

Discovery Bauxite Partners says the company’s personnel alerted its emergency team and first responders from the Police and Fire Department.

The two workers were found unresponsive and immediately transported to the St. Ann’s Bay Hospital for treatment, where they were pronounced dead.
 
Discovery Bauxite Partners says it’s contacting the families of the two workers and are offering them full support and assistance during this extremely difficult period.

The company says it shares their grief and offers prayers and support for their comfort and solace at this time.  
 
Discovery Bauxite Partners says a senior team has been assigned to carry out a comprehensive investigation into the cause of the derailment.

All rail operations have also been suspended pending completion of the company’s preliminary assessment.

The company has expressed condolences to the families, friends, loved ones and colleagues of the two workers.
