Jamaica's economy registered 4.3% growth in third quarter

Jamaica's economy is estimated to have grown by 4.3 per cent in the third quarter.
Dr. Wayne Henry, Director General of the Planning Institute of Jamaica (PIOJ), said increased domestic and external demand due to the removal of COVID-19 containment measures positively influenced growth for the July to September period.

Dr. Henry said other factors that influenced growth include higher levels of employment and increased business and consumer confidence.

Increased productivity in the agriculture industry also contributed to the positive shift.

The PIOJ estimates that the quarter's out-turn brought gross domestic product (GDP) for the first nine months of the year up by 5.2 per cent.
