The Ministry of Health & Wellness wishes to advise that contrary to the voice note circulating on social media, the US Navy Hospital Ship [USNS Comfort (T-AH 20)], which is currently anchored in the Kingston Harbour is here to help thousands of Jamaicans.
These include approximately 150 persons, who have been waiting to have surgery in the public health system and fall under the categories of ophthalmology, general surgery, orthopedic surgery, oral maxillofacial surgery, plastic surgery, wound care and urology.
This is the ship’s third time in Jamaica and has set up two walk in locations at Sabina Park and at the Greater Portmore Health Centre.
In addition to the international medical team on board, Jamaican doctors, nurses and other health professionals are also working to have the surgeries and routine medical checks including adult medical services, paediatric medical services, dental services, optometry, physical therapy and dermatology done. The mission will depart Jamaica on Friday, November 1, 2019. The walk-in sites will operate from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day on a first come, first serve basis.
The Ministry of Health & Wellness, along with other ministries, agencies and departments of Government will facilitate this visit
