Frontier Airlines has launched three new scheduled nonstop flights from three major American cities to Montego Bay.
The airline announced Thursday that passengers in St. Louis can fly nonstop to Montego Bay.
It says Denver travellers will be able to fly nonstop to Montego Bay beginning today (Friday), while Chicago-Midway-to-Montego Bay nonstop flights will begin Saturday.
Delano Seiveright, Senior Advisor and Strategist in the Tourism Ministry, said the addition of these flights will have a significant impact on Jamaica's economy.
"We're particularly excited about Denver because that's one of the busiest airports in the United States, and as a matter of fact, one of the busiest airports in the world. And it does allow a lot of connecting traffic out of many of those mountain states like Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, of course, Denver is in Colorado, so that state, Utah and so on."
He said this new demographic of travellers will have easier access to Jamaica, which ties in with the Tourism Ministry's efforts to "diversity the flow of visitors to the island".
Mr. Seiveright added that this will ultimately allow more Jamaicans to benefit from tourism.
