The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has moved Jamaica to its highest-risk travel category for COVID-19.
Jamaica was among fifteen destinations added to the list on Monday and is now categorised as Level 4, or very high risk.

The CDC places a destination at Level 4 when more than 500 cases per 100,000 residents are registered in the last 28 days.

The CDC advises travelers to avoid travel to those countries.

Jamaica's Ministry of Health & Wellness on Monday reported that the country's COVID-19 positivity rate was 48 per cent.

Chief  Medical Officer Dr. Jacquiline Bisasor McKenzie has warned that the current surge could be protracted if  infections plateau.
