The system will facilitate electronic recording of reports, complaints, and administrative entries by the police.

It was introduced at the Harbour View Police Station in the Kingston Eastern Division in April, the first of the 24 stations targeted to benefit under the first phase of the project.

Dr. Chang made the declaration after participating in a live demonstration of the new paperless system at the Harbour View Police Station on Thursday (June 9).

“It is a very powerful tool [for) the police]… .   I am happy that it is proceeding smoothly now.  It… [has had] a few glitches here and there, but it’s coming [along] very well,” Dr. Chang said following the session.

Dr. Chang, who was accompanied by State Minister in the Ministry, Hon. Zavia Mayne; Permanent Secretary in National Security, Courtney Williams, and Commissioner of Police, Major General Antony Anderson, said implementation of the system, which “should have been done a long time ago”, is part of the upgrade and the digitisation of the JCF to improve efficiency.

“I’m pleased with it, and I know it will bring significant improvement to policing in all areas, including tracking down the murderers,” he said.

The initiative will eliminate the use of the ‘big books’ that are normally used at police stations to input information manually. Each station across the island usually has 19 of these books to store various data.
