Kabaka Pyramid's 'The Kalling' top Reggae Grammy field

KABAKA PYRAMID has landed The 2023 Best Reggae Album of the year Grammy award, seeing off competition from some of the biggest names in the music genre.

The winning project ‘The Kalling’, featured the likes of Damian Marley, Protoje, Buju Banton, Stephen Marley, Jesse Royal, Jemere Morgan, Tifa, Black Am I and Answele.

Leading the charge to congratulate Kabaka, popular Reggae and Dancehall DJ Seani B, wrote on Instagram: “This is what you called “Well Deserved”. Not just for a great album “The Kalling ” But for what it takes to get to this point! Hard Work, Dedication, Structure, Loyalty and so much more.”

He added: “This isn’t just @kabakapyramid winning but the whole team who are ride or die @shomari77 and @abishai3.0 solid as a unit. From day one Nutten Nuh Change @bebblerock. Big up @damianmarley and @ghettoyouthsintl full team for the solid production and solid roll out…Teamwork mek the dreamwork.”

Kabaka himself was humbled by the achievement.

Slightly overwhelmed, he wrote on social media: “Still cyaa believe it. GRAMMY!!!!!

“Thanks to the @recordingacademy, the voters, my fellow nominees, and most of all my family, my @bebblerock team, @damianmarley @ghettoyouthsintl and everyone who played a part in the making of #TheKalling More posts to follow. Jamaica for the WIN!

Fans of Kabaka would have already known that ‘The Kalling’ was a little bit special since it dropped last year.

With the production of the project overseen by Damian ”Junior Gong” Marley, there was a quiet confidence in the Kabaka team that this project would have an indelible impact.

Hailing Damian’s influence when the album dropped, Kabaka said: “@damianmarley the mastermind on production right through the album! Truly an honour to work with this legend. Can’t wait to share these sounds with the world.”

Coincidentally Damian’s last post on Instagram in 2022, he enthused: “Congratulations and massive thanks @kabakapyramid for trusting in me as producer on this album.

“Big big respect to all the artists, musicians, producers, engineers, vocalists, bredrin and sistren, friends and family who contributed time, talent and energy. Nuff Love!!!
