The Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee Festival makes its much-anticipated return to its original venue in the cool hills of St Andrew on March 25.

The event not only provides a showcase for exciting coffee products but also for eclectic music, interesting folk and a range of other authentic Jamaican products.

Among those making the trek to Newcastle is self-taught jeweller Christen Romans, whose Chrissy’s Coils line of wire jewellery has gained a steady following both locally and overseas through her social media pages.

“Patrons should come out for the Coffee Festival. It's an amazing event; I've never been to one and have been disappointed. There is a lot to see and taste, learn about coffee and its history and just enjoy yourself. It's one of my favourite events to vend because I enjoy the people that come here - it's a great vibe and I'm just happy to be part of an event which appreciates the great things coming out of our country” Romans said.

A range of knot rings, nose cuffs, crowns, necklaces, and earrings including the best-selling “Land We Love” necklace and earrings - creations amazingly twisted in the shape of the map of Jamaica - can be viewed on Chrissy’s Coils Instagram page.

“Chrissy” currently creates her pieces from aluminium, copper, gold-filled and sterling silver wires, but has plans to use other media in the future.

The Westmoreland native who moved to Kingston to attend the University of the West Indies started her business eight years ago and continues to hold down her regular job while creating exquisite pieces for sale online.

Romans has a range of customers both locally and abroad - from the USA, Canada, the Caribbean and even Italy - and is particularly proud of her repeat customers who continue to request her pieces.

Coming out of the COVID pandemic, she looks forward to being in the Newcastle hills again, following last year’s scaled-down version at Devon House.

For now, the soft-spoken Romans works alone, noting the difficulty in building a team of artisans for such intricate work.

“The ideas come to me from all over, sometimes even in a dream”, she said.
