On Monday, March 30, 2026, the Kingston and St. Andrew Health Department (KSAHD) received a significant boost to its dental health services through the donation of more than 150 dental instruments, valued at over JA$2 million.
The donation includes XCP dental X-ray systems, light cure machines, a wide range of filling instruments, syringes, scissors, autoclave, tooth extraction and specialized oral surgery instruments, as well as complete prophylaxis (teeth cleaning) instrument sets.
This generous contribution comes from a U.S.-based dental team comprising Dr. Kevin Asher, Dr. Karlene Wright, Dr. Andrea Bonnick, and Dr. Susan Seto, along with local support from the Portmore Hospital Complex.
The donation is aimed at strengthening the capacity of dental health services across Kingston and St. Andrew, ensuring improved access to quality oral healthcare for patients.
This initiative was made possible through strong advocacy efforts and a collaborative partnership between the overseas-based dental professionals, the Portmore Hospital Complex, and Dr. Rena’ Francis, Consultant Dental Surgeon and head of the health zone for oral health services.
Dr. Francis expressed sincere appreciation for the donation, noting that it will directly improve patient outcomes and service efficiency. “This contribution represents a meaningful investment in the health and well-being of our communities. It will enhance our ability to deliver timely, high-quality dental care to those who need it most,” she stated.
