Alana Reid, the bronze medallist in the 200m at the 2022 World Under-20 Championships in Cali, Colombia, has inked a multi-year contract with Nike, an American sports company.

The confirmation of the deal was made on Wednesday by Sekou Clarke, co-founder of Auctus Global Sports Management, who will be representing Reid.

The agreement was reached earlier this week, Clarke said.

This development comes three months after the University of Oregon in the United States announced on their social media platform that Reid would be joining their 2023 recruiting class.

Reid has been having a remarkable 2023 season thus far. The 18-year-old played a significant role in Hydel High's victory at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls' Athletics Championships, commonly known as 'Champs', in April.

At Champs, Reid made history by becoming the first female athlete to complete the 100m race in under 11 seconds at the five-day event. She turned in an impressive performance to win the Girls’ Class One 100m final in a national junior record of 10.92 seconds, shattering Veronica Campbell’s record of 11.12 set back in 2001. Reid further achieved the sprint double by winning the 200m race in 23.08 seconds, just shy of her personal best of 22.95 seconds set in Cali, Colombia.

In addition, Reid secured the gold medal in the Under-20 100m at the Carifta Games on April 8 in Nassau, clocking a time of 11.17 seconds. Making her first appearance against professional athletes in May, Reid posted times of 11.12 and 11.08 seconds at the USATF Los Angeles Grand Prix held at Drake Stadium in California.

Reid is expected to make her debut representing Nike at the National Championships, scheduled from July 6 to 9 at the National Stadium. She is expected to continue her training under the guidance of her high school coach Corey Bennett until the conclusion of the 2023 track and field season.
