Eight Firearms seized at Stadium East

The number of firearms seized at Stadium East in St. Andrew since Sunday has increased to eight.

Rock Mobile Hits Govt Brick Walls

Rock Mobile, the telecommunications company which was granted a licence last year to operate locally, has disclosed some of  its challenges in delivering improved broadband services across the island.
 
Bruce Bowen, Chairman of  Rock Mobile, said on Monday that some of  these relate to government provisions based on the terms of  the agreement.
 
Rock Mobile is looking to supply mobile internet access to rural areas. 
 
The terms of  its licence include a requirement that it should begin operations within 12 months and provide the communities this service within two years.
 
But Mr Bowen said while the company is willing and ready and understands the procedures in government, he expected more to be happening by now.

Man Arrested in Drumblair Cocaine Bust

A man has been arrested following a cocaine seizure in Drumblair, St. Andrew.
A major investigation is ongoing following the seizure of 20 handguns and 40 magazines on Friday afternoon at the cargo section of Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, St. James.
 
Senior Superintendent Wayne Cameron, head of the Ports Division, said that the weapons were seized about 3:30 p.m.
 
It is understood that a customs broker is being questioned in connection with the shipment.
 
The police carried out a deep search of the cargo area at Sangster International.
 
Senior Superintendent Stephanie Lindsay, head of the Jamaica Constabulary Force's Corporate Communications Unit, says the 20 firearms are 9 millimetre pistols. 
Murders in Jamaica have risen by 15.5 per cent when compared to the first 23 days in January last year.
The government is moving to further postpone local government elections which were due to be held by next month.

Mottley Sweeps Barbados Elections
