Minister of National Security, Hon. Dr. Horace Chang, has committed to provide support to the police in an effort to reduce crime and public disorder in the Vineyard Town and Mountain View communities. This was outlined earlier this evening when he visited the scene of the recent shooting at the Deanery Road Medical Centre in Vineyard Town.

“This area is of particular interest to the government and we will continue to do whatever is necessary to dismantle the criminal networks and gangs that plague the community and surrounding areas”, said Minister Chang.

He furthered reassured the residents in the community that the JCF is working assiduously to restore public order and safety in the community. “The members of the constabulary force and the defense force remain relentless in their pursuit of these criminals and will utilise all the resources available to apprehend them”, the Minister said.

Minister Chang also visited St. Theresa Preparatory School which is adjacent to the medical centre, and then went on to the Vineyard Town and Mountain View police stations.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) reported that at approximately 10:00 a.m. October 23, an unknown assailant entered the medical centre and opened gunfire, leaving dead of a Mountain View address, 42 year-old Clifton Brown. Five others including a pregnant woman and a four-year-old boy were injured during the shooting.

The Ministry of National Security and the JCF are working hard to ensure that there are no reprisals as adequate resources have been deployed. If you have any information on the recent shooting, please report it to the nearest police station or contact Crime Stop Jamaica at 113.
